The program focuses on how parents can achieve a happy household environment that everyone enjoys. The program is designed specifically for families with children under 15 years of age.

This program is not about judging you as a parent but it is about helping you to identify issues affecting your family and finding solutions.

During the 4 week program, parents are supported in small groups of up to 10 couples under the supervision of Child Health Expert, Dr Louise Schofield.

Honey We're Killing the Kids dietitian Caryn Zinn says, "It is vital that good healthy eating habits are instilled into children's lives, from the youngest age possible. Children with early disciplined healthful eating behaviours tend to grow up and continue practicing these good food behaviours with their future families. Initially parents may need to be strict in terms of the frequency with which certain foods are allowed to be consumed. Despite being an unpopular parent initially, children will be thankful in the long term as their risks of becoming victims of lifestyle conditions such as obesity, TypeII diabetes and heart disease decreases substantially" says Caryn Zinn, AUT Senior Lecturer, Consultant Dietitian.

"A family life dominated by TV watching, video games, computers, and driving everywhere is common for New Zealand families. All this sitting around is something that affects not only our health and our weight, but how much and how well we interact with each other in the family unit. It's time to get off the couch and get moving. We want to give parents the confidence to turn off the TV, send the kids outside to play, and start living not sitting!" says Dr Grant Schofield, Director of the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research at AUT University.
